MRT Survival Kit

Have you ever wondered how boring a MRT train ride can be (especially when you are travelling alone)? Nope, the screaming kids, the uncouth expletive-sounding teenage boys, and mobilephone music blaster beng don't count as entertainment. So here's introducing my new MRT (and bedtime) survival kit.

My trusty DS (the bulky version instead of the newer lite) has been with me for 2.5 years, and though it has a few scratches here and there plus a chipped-off edge (due to a careless drop in 2007), I like every bit of the most senior member of my MRT survival kit. While the DS does have new bucketloads of crappy games being made for it every month, there are still a few gems.

The 2nd member of my MRT survival kit is my Creative Zen. I decided to include it in my kit because I wanted a dedicated MP3 player - I don't want to listen to music on my mobilephone as it drains the battery quickly and the proprietary earphones are of the most nonsense quality, and neither do I want to listen to music on my PSP as there wouldn't be ample space on the 4GB memory card to store my videos and games. The Creative Zen doubles up as my photo viewer and video player (though I prefer to use my PSP for this function). I just can't go without my Creative Zen because music is a necessity to me - it relaxes me and provides my day-dreaming with the required sound effects!

The newest and last member of my MRT survival kit is my 2 week old PSP Slim and Lite. I bought the PSP Slim and Lite because I wanted to get my hands on more games. The DS just ain't enough. I want a portable that is technically more powerful and with that, comes graphics-intensive games that are very pleasing to my eyes. While the DS certainly has its advantages, the PSP also has its - and those are the ability to play music, view photos and watch videos. I bought it at $250, down from $499 when it first came out in March 2005. Now, I find that a great deal for a gadget that has so many functions!

Of course, this MRT survival kit isn't necessarily restricted to my MRT train rides. Let's just say I am unable to fall asleep one night. That's when my MRT survival kit comes in handy too - it relieves boredom and kills time (FYI: I hate sleeping!). So, there you go: my MRT (and bedtime) survival kit.
